Park We faces backlash after releasing KTX accident CCTV footage

YouTuber Park We is facing significant backlash following his decision to release CCTV footage of a wheelchair accident on a KTX train. The footage showed Park We falling after a social service worker’s foot caught a wheelchair wheel on a ramp. While Park We initially expressed anger over the incident, he later issued an apology, stating his “way of delivering the message was immature and thoughtless” and acknowledging that the worker had attempted to help and apologized on-site.

Despite the apology, the controversy has led to several consequences. Park We’s YouTube channel, ‘WeRacle’, has seen a sharp decline in subscribers, dropping below the one-million mark. Additionally, several scheduled lectures and talk concerts have been canceled. The controversy has also extended to his role as a Seoul Metropolitan Government ambassador, with formal civil complaints filed requesting his dismissal.

Public reaction remains divided. Some defend Park We, noting that minor negligence can be life-threatening for those with disabilities, while others criticize his response as excessive and a potential violation of privacy regarding the worker. Shinhwa member Kim Dong-wan weighed in, suggesting that while the method of releasing the video was questionable, the criticism should not escalate into collective insults or unverified personal attacks.
