Yoweri Museveni hails 90-year impact of East African Revival in Ankole

President Yoweri Museveni has commended the East African Revival for its role in the moral, social, and economic transformation of the Ankole region over the last 90 years. Speaking at St. John’s Cathedral in Mbarara City during a five-day convention, Museveni noted that the movement helped communities address issues such as alcoholism, adultery, dishonesty, and harmful traditional practices while promoting education and discipline.

The spiritual movement, which took root in Ankole in 1936 after spreading from Rwanda and Kigezi, emphasizes repentance, reconciliation, and practical Christian living.

During the event, Museveni shared personal reflections on his connection to the region, noting that his family initially resisted joining the Church of Uganda following the arrival of missionaries in 1899. He stated that his parents and himself eventually joined the Church in 1947.
