Yozgat farmer discovers marine fossils in Sorgun pasture
A livestock farmer in the Sorgun district of Yozgat, Turkey, has discovered numerous fossil remains believed to belong to marine life. Lokman Atıl reported finding the fossils while grazing his animals in a pasture in the Araplı town.
The discovered remains include sea snails and other unidentified organisms. Atıl noted that the fossils vary in size, ranging from the size of lentils and chickpeas to much larger specimens. He described the area as a potential ‘fossil paradise’ and suggested the high density of remains indicates significant biological diversity in the region's ancient past.
Atıl has issued a formal call to relevant institutions and academics to conduct a comprehensive paleontological investigation of the site to better understand the prehistoric life that once inhabited the area.
