Gerardo Fariña survives shooting attack in Ypané

Gerardo Fariña, the Colorado Party candidate for mayor of Ypané, survived an armed attack during the early hours of Wednesday. The incident occurred in a sparsely populated area near his home, where shots were fired at his Mitsubishi vehicle, striking the windshield. Fariña, who was driving alone, managed to avoid injury by ducking, though the impact caused him to lose control and veer into a ditch.

Senator Juan Carlos Nano Galaverna expressed deep concern regarding the attack, noting the highly polarized political climate in Ypané ahead of the 2026 municipal elections. While Galaverna did not explicitly name political rivals, he highlighted the tension in a city where the Colorado Party is attempting to reclaim power from the current administration. Authorities are currently investigating the incident to identify the perpetrators.
