YPF advances major gas processing and LNG export projects

YPF is advancing major energy infrastructure projects aimed at transforming Argentina into a significant liquefied natural gas (LNG) exporter. The state-run company recently received unanimous local support in Plaza Huincul to proceed with the Environmental Impact Study for the Integrated Gas Treatment Plant (IGTP). Located in Meseta Buena Esperanza, this facility is designed to process gas from the Vaca Muerta formation for export via pipelines to the San Matías Gulf.

Construction of the IGTP is projected to begin in 2027, with an initial operational phase in 2029 and exports starting in 2030. The project is estimated to generate over $10 billion in annual export sales for two decades and could create up to 40,000 jobs during the construction phase.

In parallel, YPF CEO Horacio Marín announced that the company is close to signing several LNG sales contracts for a proposed $24 billion export venture known as Argentina LNG. This joint venture, which includes Italy’s Eni SpA and Abu Dhabi’s XRG, aims to develop an offshore terminal on the Atlantic coast capable of producing 12 million tons of LNG annually. YPF intends to secure these contracts before making a final investment decision in November.
