YPF expands energy footprint with biofuel and electricity deals

YPF is advancing major strategic expansions in both the renewable fuels and electricity sectors. In Santa Fe, the joint venture Santa Fe Bio has signed a long-term purchase agreement with France’s TotalEnergies. This agreement facilitates an investment exceeding US$ 400 million to develop a biorefinery at the former San Lorenzo site. The plant is expected to produce 170,000 tons annually of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) and Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil (HVO) for international markets.

Simultaneously, YPF has agreed to pay US$ 430 million to acquire the remaining 24.99% stake in YPF Luz from BNR Power Investments B.V., an entity linked to GE Vernova. This transaction will grant YPF 100% control of its electric power generation subsidiary, which holds 3.8 GW of installed capacity and provides approximately 10% of Argentina’s electricity. The move aims to consolidate YPF’s presence across the energy value chain and capture the full economic results of its power generation business.
