YPFB begins $9 million drilling project in Cochabamba

Yacimientos Petrolíferos Fiscales Bolivianos (YPFB) has commenced drilling the Surubí Noroeste 6 (SRB NO-6) development well in the Surubí-Mamoré area, located in the Entre Ríos municipality of Cochabamba. The project represents an investment of USD 9 million.

The primary objective of the drilling operation is to develop oil reserves within the Yantata reservoir and the secondary Lower Petaca reservoir. This initiative aims to increase the production of light crude, with projected API gravity levels between 44° and 46°.

The well is expected to reach a depth of approximately 3,496 meters using the 2,000 HP YPFB-02 drilling rig. The field, which was previously returned by Repsol, is now under the operation of YPFB’s National Exploration and Exploitation Management. Due to the project's location in an agricultural zone, the company is conducting continuous environmental monitoring in compliance with national environmental laws.
