YPFB implements tracking technology to combat LPG price speculation

Yacimientos Petrolíferos Fiscales Bolivianos (YPFB) has announced the implementation of georeferenced tracking technology to monitor the distribution of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) cylinders. The initiative aims to prevent illegal stockpiling, price speculation, and smuggling to neighboring countries.

Despite an official government-mandated price of Bs 22.50 per 10kg cylinder, reports from rural areas in Cochabamba indicate that some vendors are charging between Bs 90 and Bs 130. In response, YPFB President Sebastián Daroca confirmed that the official price will remain unchanged and that supply volumes are beginning to regularize following recent logistical adjustments.

To enforce these controls, YPFB is coordinating with the National Hydrocarbons Agency (ANH) and the Bolivian Police to conduct operations against irregular commercialization. Recent enforcement actions include the seizure of 300 LPG cylinders and 250 liters of liquid fuel on October 17, followed by the seizure of 264 cylinders on October 20.
