Tarık Özünal appointed Yüreğir Deputy Mayor by court order
Tarık Özünal of the AK Party has assumed the role of Deputy Mayor of Yüreğir following a court ruling by the Adana 2nd Administrative Court. The appointment follows a period of political dispute after the Ministry of Interior removed Mayor Ali Demirçalı from office.
The legal conflict began after a municipal council election where CHP candidate Cafer Boyraz was initially elected. However, following objections from the AK Party, the court ordered a stay of execution and a re-run of the election process. After multiple rounds of voting and subsequent legal challenges regarding the election's mathematical validity, the court ultimately ruled in favor of Tarık Özünal.
Representatives from the CHP, including Deputy Group Chairman Sevda Erdan Kılıç and Istanbul-based officials, protested the decision at the municipal building, characterizing the court's intervention as an infringement on the people's will. Özünal has since begun his duties, stating his intention to work with a focus on service and unity, regardless of political differences.
