Yörük village in Safranbolu hosts cultural heritage event
The “Anatolian Tables: Yörük Culture and Memory” event was held in the historic Yörük village of Safranbolu, Karabük. The program showcased the village's traditions, local flavors, oral narratives, and living cultural heritage.
Participants took guided tours of the Sipahioğlu Mansion, the village laundry, and local streets. Karabük Governor Oktay Çağatay emphasized the importance of preserving these ancestral legacies for future generations, noting the region's rich geography and historical mansions.
Mehmet Çetinkaya, Secretary General of the Western Black Sea Development Agency (BAKKA), stated that efforts are underway to help the village achieve the title of “Best Tourism Village.” These initiatives include ecotourism roadmaps and Social Development Support Program (SOGEP) projects. Additionally, two new works are being prepared to document the village's cultural accumulation, focusing on its stone and wood textures and its connection to figures like Leyla Gencer.
