YSRCP organizes legal support for elections amid ongoing money laundering cases
Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP) State Coordinator Sajjala Ramakrishna Reddy has called for the party's Legal Cell to provide comprehensive support for candidates in upcoming local-body elections. Reddy proposed the immediate establishment of district-level legal war rooms, constituency-level task forces, and a state-level coordination mechanism to assist candidates from the nomination phase through to the counting of votes.
Reddy also raised concerns regarding the timing of the local elections, questioning the government's decision to proceed before the completion of the SIR process and the publication of final electoral rolls. He argued that holding elections before including newly eligible voters could infringe upon constitutional voting rights. Additionally, he demanded the public disclosure of the BC Reservation Commission report.
In a separate legal development, the Telangana High Court has directed its Registry to list a writ petition filed by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on October 13. The ED is seeking expedited trials in money laundering cases involving various officials, including former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy. The agency has filed nine prosecution complaints under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act between 2016 and 2021, citing the need for a speedy trial under Article 21 of the Constitution.
