YTL Power to develop gigawatt data centre campus in Johor
YTL Power International Bhd is partnering with state-owned JLand Group to develop a new gigawatt-scale data centre campus in Johor, Malaysia. The project will be located within Sedenak Tech Park West at Ibrahim Technopolis.
YTL Power’s subsidiary, SIPP Power Sdn Bhd, will acquire 145 acres of land from JLand Group, with an option to acquire an additional 400 acres, potentially bringing the total campus size to 545 acres. The development aims to bolster Johor’s position as a regional hub for artificial intelligence, cloud computing, and digital innovation.
The Sedenak campus will complement YTL Power’s existing Green Data Center Park in Kulai. The Kulai facility houses AI infrastructure developed in collaboration with Nvidia Corp, utilizing the GB200 NVL72 system to provide large-scale GPU-based accelerated computing. While the project is expected to drive economic activity and skilled employment, concerns regarding high electricity consumption and potential strain on local water supplies have been noted in the context of growing data centre developments in the region.
