Yu Garden Hamburg to become center for Chinese cultural heritage

To mark the 40th anniversary of the sister city partnership between Hamburg and Shanghai, the Yu Garden in Hamburg has been designated as an ‘International Experience Center for China’s Intangible Cultural Heritage’.

Introduced during an event on September 3, the initiative aims to move beyond mere presentation by allowing visitors to directly experience Chinese traditions. This includes tea ceremonies, traditional craftsmanship, and other cultural practices passed down through generations. The tea house, modeled after Shanghai’s famous Huxinting Tea House, will serve as a hub for cultural encounters between German and Chinese traditions.

Key attendees included Lin Dong, the Chinese Consul General in Hamburg, Hu Junjie, Vice President of YUYUAN Inc., Chen Qiuyi, President of the Hamburg Society for China, and Corinna Nienstedt from the Hamburg Senate Chancellery.
