Asian Games 2026: Shin Ohashi sets world record in 200m breaststroke
The 2026 Asian Games in Japan have seen several historic athletic achievements, particularly in swimming. Japanese teenager Shin Ohashi set a new world record in the men’s 200m breaststroke with a time of 2:04.83, overcoming a recent bout of Covid-19 and a high fever to secure his second gold medal of the meet.
China’s 13-year-old swimming prodigy Yu Zidi also dominated the pool, securing three gold medals and breaking the Asian Games record in the women’s 400m freestyle. Meanwhile, Singapore’s Gan Ching Hwee earned a silver medal in the 400m freestyle, setting a new Singaporean national record with a time of 4:06.81.
In other sports, the Chinese women’s badminton team claimed the gold medal after defeating Japan 3-0 in the final. In cricket, Afghanistan opened their campaign with a 48-run victory over Japan.
