Yuan strengthens to 6.7399 against the dollar at central parity
China’s yuan strengthened against the U.S. dollar on Monday, with the central parity rate rising 90 pips to 6.7399, according to the China Foreign Exchange Trade System.
The People’s Bank of China (PBOC) determines this daily midpoint based on various inputs, including previous closing prices, international foreign exchange conditions, and domestic economic factors such as capital flows and financial stability. Under China’s managed floating exchange rate system, the yuan is permitted to trade within a two per cent range above or below this central reference rate in the spot market.
The daily fixing is frequently viewed by investors as a policy signal. A stronger-than-expected midpoint typically suggests that the PBOC is acting to counter depreciation pressures, whereas a weaker fixing may indicate a tolerance for a softer currency in response to U.S. dollar strength or domestic economic headwinds.
