Yucatán and Oaxaca Sign Collaboration to Share Vector‑Borne Disease Prevention Strategy

The Universidad Autónoma de Yucatán (UADY) and the health services of Oaxaca signed a General Collaboration Agreement to launch joint research projects, knowledge exchange, training and technical capacity‑building. The pact will allow Yucatán’s experience in vector control, including the Wolbachia‑based approach against the Aedes aegypti mosquito, to be shared with Oaxaca.

Yucatán’s subdirector of Public Health, Marbella Perera Rivero, attended on behalf of Health Secretary Alberto Alcocer Gamboa, while Oaxaca’s director of Prevention and Promotion of Health, Eder López Toro, represented Health Secretary Emmanuel Jarquín González. Governor Joaquín Díaz Mena has declared 2026 the “Year of Health” in Yucatán, emphasizing prevention as a core public‑health policy. The state reported only 16 confirmed dengue cases in epidemiological week 29 of 2026, an 83.15% decline from the same period in 2025, highlighting the impact of its integrated strategy.
