Yucatán and Quintana Roo host youth arts festivals in Mexico

The state Secretariat of Culture and the Arts (Sedeculta) organized the V Encuentro Multidisciplinario "Alas y Raíces" in Yucatán, bringing together more than 1,800 children from 18 municipalities for workshops in music, theater, audiovisual production, rap and Maya-language singing at the Gran Museo del Mundo Maya. Participants performed theater, rap and reggae, and officials highlighted the importance of preserving Maya language and identity. Patricia Martín Briceño said, “Hay que hacer que las niñas y los niños vean en la lengua maya un motivo de orgullo.”

Separately, Quintana Roo's cultural institutions announced a summer arts program running from 27 July to 14 August 2026. Open to children and youths aged 6‑15, the courses offer training in visual arts, music, dance, literature and theater across the state’s Casas de Cultura and specialized schools in Chetumal. The initiative aims to foster creativity and early engagement with the arts during the school holidays.
