Yucatán bullfighting faces provisional suspension and restrictions

Animal rights organizations Animal Héroes and PETA Latino have obtained provisional suspensions regarding bullfighting in the Yucatecan municipalities of Sotuta, Ucú, and Cansahcab. While the judicial rulings allow these traditional events to continue, they impose strict conditions to prevent physical suffering or mistreatment of animals.

Under the court's restrictions, the use of swords, rapiers, banderillas, lances, or any equivalent instruments that cause bleeding, pain, or undue stress is prohibited. The organizations argued that such tools violate Article 4 of the Mexican Constitution regarding animal protection and NOM-033 standards.

In addition to the suspensions in Sotuta, Ucú, and Cansahcab, the groups secured injunctions against bullfighting in Tixkokob, Temozón, Muna, and Seyé. The organizations have stated they will continue legal actions to prevent the use of any instruments that cause injury or suffering to bulls and other animals in Yucatán.
