Yucatán DIF president faces scrutiny over personal spending

Public indignation has risen in Yucatán following reports of excessive spending by Wendy Méndez Naal, the president of the State DIF and wife of Governor Joaquín “Huacho” Díaz Mena.

Reports indicate that last year, 10 million pesos were allocated to expenses related to her image and personal use, categorized under “general expenses” within the DIF budget. For 2026, this personal budget has reportedly increased by 50 percent to 15 million pesos.

The expenditures include luxury clothing, such as brand-name dresses costing approximately 30,000 pesos each, as well as the salaries of two personal assistants, an image coach, a makeup artist, and a photographer. Additionally, the budget covers the rental of an armored vehicle, two bodyguards, and a driver.
