Yucatán faces heavy rain and flooding risks this weekend

Heavy rainfall and high temperatures are forecasted for Yucatán through the weekend of October 17 and 18. The State Civil Protection Coordination (Procivy) warned that precipitation could be particularly intense in the eastern, central, and southern regions of the state.

Several meteorological factors are contributing to these conditions, including a stationary cold front in the central Gulf of Mexico, a trough over the Yucatán Peninsula, and moisture entering from the Caribbean Sea. The National Meteorological Service (SMN) predicts that some areas may experience very strong rains, potentially accompanied by electrical discharges, wind gusts, and isolated hail.

Authorities have advised residents to take precautions against potential flooding, water accumulation, and strong currents in low-lying areas. Navigators have also been urged to exercise caution. Despite the rain, temperatures are expected to remain warm, with maximums ranging between 28 and 35 degrees Celsius.
