Yucatán floods cripple crops and draw criticism of Governor Díaz Mena's response

Intense rains across the Mexican state of Yucatán turned streets into rivers and flooded agricultural fields. At least 300 hectares of corn and vegetable crops in the municipalities of Muna, Homún and Tixkokob were reported damaged, leaving hundreds of farm families facing loss of income as the storm persisted.

The emergency response has been questioned after Governor Joaquín Díaz Mena was not seen in the affected areas. He remained in Mexico City on the day before the worst of the rains and later attended a political event in the Siglo XXI Convention Center while the floodwaters surged. Critics highlighted his delayed actions, the late suspension of activities, and a fatal accident at a restaurant on Avenida Canek. Authorities say they are monitoring the situation and planning assistance, but the combination of agricultural loss and perceived political neglect has heightened public concern.
