Yucatán government concludes youth-led evaluation of state programs

Thirteen students from five different universities have completed a four-month program evaluating 13 budgetary programs of the Yucatán state government. This initiative, part of the second generation of the Youth Evaluators Training Program, aims to incorporate citizen perspectives into the review of state public policies.

Luis Antonio Hevia Jiménez, head of the Technical Secretariat of Planning and Evaluation (Seplan), stated that the program aligns with Governor Joaquín Díaz Mena’s commitment to an open government that uses evidence to adjust its actions. The evaluations are intended to verify if programs meet the goals of the 2024-2030 State Development Plan, known as the ‘Mayan Renaissance’ project.

The results from these evaluations will be integrated into a government improvement cycle, including specific commitments, responsible parties, and deadlines. Yucatán has previously been recognized by the Ministry of Finance and Public Credit for its implementation of Results-Based Budgeting.
