Yucatán government denies active contracts with Israel
The government of Yucatán, led by Governor Joaquín Díaz Mena, has stated it will not continue cooperation efforts outlined in a 2021 letter of intent signed with the Israeli Embassy. The administration clarified that the document, signed during the previous administration of Mauricio Vila Dosal, does not create any legal or normative obligations for the current government.
This response follows pressure from the Committee of Solidarity with Palestine in Yucatán, a group of activists who have demanded that the state reject all Israeli investment to avoid supporting what they describe as a “war economy.” The committee expressed concerns regarding potential Israeli control over local water, agriculture, and technology sectors.
State officials, including Undersecretary of Government Pablo Castro Alcocer, confirmed there are no current contracts with Israeli companies regarding water resources, agriculture, or public security. The government has invited members of the committee to a dialogue table scheduled for November 6 to address their concerns.
