Yucatán Governor Inaugurates New Football‑5 Field in Tekax as Part of Renacimiento Maya

Governor Joaquín Díaz Mena opened a new five‑a‑side football field at the Unidad Deportiva Enrique Cerón Espinoza in Tekax, Yucatán. The project was carried out in coordination with President Claudia Sheinbaum’s national sports‑infrastructure program and is presented as a component of the “Mundial Social 2026” initiative.

The facility includes synthetic turf, drainage, perimeter fencing, goals and lighting to enable use day and night. Officials said the field will provide a safe space for children and youth, help reduce violence, and strengthen community ties. The opening was attended by municipal mayor Manuel Vallejos, who called the project historic for the town, and by the honorary president of the Yucatán DIF, Wendy Méndez Naal.

The Tekax field is part of the National Programme for Intervention and Modernisation of Sports Infrastructure, which plans 46 new or refurbished fields in 24 municipalities, with an additional 37 fields to be built by the state government. The broader Renacimiento Maya effort aims to extend sports, infrastructure and development opportunities throughout the state.
