Yucatán health workers protest broken promises after IMSS‑Bienestar transition

Health personnel at the new Hospital General Dr. Agustín O’Horán in Yucatán staged a demonstration demanding the fulfillment of labor‑stability and salary‑justice commitments announced by Governor Joaquín Díaz Menéndez during the shift to the IMSS‑Bienestar system. The protestors, including doctors, nurses and orderlies originally hired during the COVID‑19 emergency, allege they have been forced to relocate to neighboring states such as Campeche and Quintana Roo, incurring full transport, housing and food costs while facing safety risks on the roads. They also complain of precarious contracts that pay as little as 3,500 pesos per fortnight and lack basic benefits, while new hires from other states receive up to 15,000 pesos for the same period.

The workers criticised the state authorities for postponing solutions, citing the governor’s vague response “Mañana hay junta”. They warned they will maintain the mobilisations until a definitive resolution is reached, calling for payment of overdue wages and a program to restore their livelihoods after more than two years of uncertainty.
