Yucatán health workers to return under new IMSS‑Bienestar agreement

The government of the Mexican state of Yucatán has signed a convention with IMSS‑Bienestar that creates a pathway for health personnel who were temporarily reassigned to Campeche and Quintana Roo during the COVID‑19 pandemic to return to the state.

Those workers were hired with federal emergency funds under temporary contracts to maintain employment while Yucatán was not yet incorporated into the IMSS‑Bienestar model. The new agreement provides an institutional framework for reviewing each case, but actual reintegration will depend on validation by IMSS‑Bienestar, the availability of positions, professional profiles and the needs of Yucatán’s medical units. A updated registry of the relocated staff is being compiled.

Returned personnel will be gradually absorbed into the state health system and will participate in the staged basification process outlined in the agreement. Governor Joaquín Díaz Mena highlighted the state’s commitment to working with the federal government to restore these workers to serve Yucatán families.
