Yucatán launches 100,000 scholarships to train workers for higher‑pay jobs

Governor Joaquín Díaz Mena of the Mexican state of Yucatán signed a partnership with Fundación Wadhwani and the private training firm Formeta to create an "Alliance for Human‑Talent Formation and Productivity". The initiative will award up to 100,000 scholarships aimed at improving digital, technical and professional skills of Yucatán’s workforce and expanding access to better‑paid employment.

Each scholarship, valued at roughly US$250, covers access to an online learning platform and related training programs. Recipients include young people, job seekers and workers seeking career advancement, especially in interior municipalities that have historically lacked training resources. The program is part of a broader push by the state government, supported by President Claudia Sheinbaum’s federal investments of more than 50 billion pesos in projects such as the Altura port modernization, the cargo‑train Maya line, welfare hubs and new universities, to close the gap between employer needs and workforce qualifications.
