Yucatán launches campaign to boost local product consumption
The Yucatán Secretariat of Economy and Labor (SETY) and the National Chamber of the Transformation Industry (Canacintra) have launched the ‘Elige lo Hecho en Yucatán’ campaign. The initiative aims to strengthen the connection between local businesses and consumers to support economic development and job creation.
Ermilo Barrera Novelo, head of SETY, noted that while formal worker salaries in the state have seen a 14% increase, there remains a wage lag compared to the rest of Mexico. To address this, the government is attracting strategic sectors such as semiconductors and logistics. Additionally, Governor Joaquín Díaz Mena is expected to announce over 10 billion pesos in private investment, with more than 80 projects currently under negotiation totaling over 150 billion pesos.
Canacintra Yucatán leader Esteban Roche Rivero highlighted that the ‘Hecho en Yucatán’ program has grown from 600 companies in 2018 to more than 1,600 companies and 5,000 brands today. These products are distributed nationally and internationally, particularly in the United States and Europe, under a geographical indication recognized by the Mexican Institute of Industrial Property (IMPI).
