Yucatán launches mental health initiative for 27,000 students
Governor Joaquín Díaz Mena led the second edition of the “Dale color a tu vida, dale color a tu mente” initiative in Yucatán, aimed at strengthening mental health and suicide prevention among students. The program reached more than 27,000 students across 40 campuses, utilizing artistic activities and support networks to identify risk factors and provide assistance.
As part of the “Aliados por la Vida” strategy, students are using art to create murals that convey messages of self-care and reflection. These works also serve to promote the “Línea Amiga” (800 108 8000), a free, 24/7 orientation and support service. Governor Díaz Mena noted that art provides a medium for expression when words may be difficult for youth to use.
According to the Governor, the state has seen a one-fourth reduction in suicide rates, indicating progress in these prevention strategies. The initiative involves collaboration between the Yucatán Health Services, the Secretariat of Education, and various mental health units to create safer environments for young people.
