Yucatán officials question public debt and infrastructure spending

Legislators and political observers in Yucatán are raising concerns regarding public debt and the management of infrastructure funds. Cuauhtémoc Estrada, a Morena coordinator in the State Congress, has called for transparency regarding a 132 million peso credit originally intended for the construction of the Mápula landfill. Estrada questioned the current status of these funds after judicial injunctions temporarily halted the project, forcing the municipality to use part of the credit for expansions at the existing landfill.

Simultaneously, Tonatiuh Villanueva Caltempa of Somos México has expressed alarm over a request from the state executive for a 1.5 billion peso loan. Villanueva Caltempa warned that the administration is seeking significant new debt despite a perceived decline in public services, including water distribution, road maintenance, and public safety. Critics are questioning the urgency of this financial request and demanding accountability for how existing federal social infrastructure funds are being utilized.
