Yucatán Prosecutor's Office strengthens anti-fraud and extortion measures

The State Attorney General's Office (FGE) in Yucatán is strengthening measures to combat fraud, particularly crimes committed through social media and digital platforms. The strategy focuses on two main areas: improving the efficiency of reporting to prevent impunity and enhancing prevention efforts to help citizens identify telephone scams and digital risks.

In terms of extortion, the FGE reports that incidence remains low in Yucatán, with only four reported cases during the first four months of 2026. The office is also addressing cases involving account impersonation and hacking. Through its Crime Prevention Directorate, the FGE conducts outreach in schools, universities, and businesses, covering topics such as digital crimes, self-protection for minors, and substance abuse prevention.

Additionally, the FGE has collaborated with civil organizations and business chambers to influence legal reforms regarding violence against women, animal abuse, and missing persons. The office is also reviewing potential sanction measures for adolescents involved in criminal conduct under the National Law of the Integral Criminal Justice System for Adolescents.
