Yucatán ranks as Mexico's most gossipy state in national survey
A national survey titled ‘Ranking del Carácter Mexicano 2026’, conducted by Mitofsky and TResearch, has identified Yucatán as the state where residents most frequently identify as gossipy. According to the report, 26% of Yucatán residents described themselves as either ‘very’ or ‘somewhat’ gossipy, placing the state first in Mexico and 10 percentage points above the national average of 16%.
Oaxaca ranked second with 23%, followed by San Luis Potosí at 21%. Tlaxcala recorded the lowest percentage, with only 6% of residents claiming the trait. The study, which involved 14,760 interviews across all 32 Mexican states between April and October, focused on self-perception rather than actual behavior.
Demographic data from the poll indicated that younger adults aged 18 to 29 were more likely to identify as gossipy (24%) compared to those aged 50 and older (14%). Additionally, women were slightly more likely to admit to the trait than men, at 18% versus 14%.
