Yucatán security concerns raised amid rising crime statistics

During the National Forum on Security and Peace, Gaspar Quintal Parra, President of the PRI in Yucatán, warned that while the state remains relatively safe compared to the rest of Mexico, official indicators show rising crime trends that require urgent attention.

Citing INEGI data, Quintal Parra noted that estimated crimes rose from approximately 438,000 in 2023 to 584,000 in 2024, representing a 33% increase. He specifically highlighted a 38% rise in digital crimes and fraud. Additionally, the percentage of households with at least one crime victim increased from 24% to 26.9%.

A significant concern raised was the low reporting rate, with only 9.4% of crimes being officially reported, suggesting a growing gap between citizens and justice institutions. Quintal Parra emphasized that security must be maintained through continuous work, investment, and prevention rather than through propaganda or complacency.
