Yucatán sees rise in banking fraud and credit card disputes
Financial fraud and banking conflicts are rising in Yucatán. During the first half of 2026, the National Commission for the Protection and Defense of Users of Financial Services (Condusef) received 4,121 claims in the region, marking an 11.2% increase compared to the same period the previous year.
Credit cards have emerged as the primary source of conflict, with claims rising 47.3% to 1,195 cases. Combined with debit cards and personal loans, these products account for 72.3% of all complaints in the state. Multiple banking institutions were responsible for 61.4% of the grievances, cited mainly for unrecognized charges, difficulties canceling products, and unauthorized digital transactions.
Mérida accounted for 82.1% of the files, followed by Kanasín and Progreso. While fraud cases are increasing due to the rise in digital banking usage, Condusef's management and conciliation processes successfully recovered 28.9 million pesos for affected users in Yucatán.
