Yucatán Youth Graffiti Workshop Promotes Art and Community
The Secretaría de las Juventudes (Sejuvey), together with the Centro Estatal de Prevención Social del Delito y Participación Ciudadana (Cepredey), offered a free summer course‑workshop titled “Letras urbanas: grafiti en lienzos” for young people in Yucatán. Participants learned acrylic canvas painting and spray‑paint graffiti techniques, culminating in a collective mural that expressed personal ideas, emotions and experiences. Coordinator Alejandro Reyes “Yester” explained that the program uses graffiti to foster self‑knowledge, identity and community participation. One participant, Adrián Ruiz, said urban art provides an accessible way to communicate feelings and identity.
The workshop is part of Sejuvey’s broader free‑summer cultural offering, aimed at encouraging creativity and collaborative learning among the region’s youth.
