Yucatán's economy expands 2.1% in Q1 2026, powered by 14% jump in primary sector
The Instituto Nacional de Estadística y Geografía (INEGI) reported that Yucatán's total economic activity grew 2.1% year‑on‑year in the first quarter of 2026. The surge was driven primarily by a 14% increase in primary activities such as agriculture, livestock, forestry, fishing and hunting. Secondary activities—including mining, construction, energy generation and manufacturing—rose 1.8%, while tertiary services grew 1.6%.
These gains placed Yucatán 11th nationally for primary sector growth, 9th for secondary, and 7th for tertiary activity among Mexico's 32 states. By contrast, the quarter‑over‑quarter change was modest at 0.4%, and neighboring states Campeche and Quintana Roo reported declines during the same period.
