Yucatán’s hotel expansion and Boston’s Pizza growth boost tourism ahead of World Cup 2026
The hotel sector in Yucatán projects a total of 18,000 rooms in operation by the end of 2026‑2027, with more than 600 new rooms under construction. Juan José Martín Pacheco, president of the Mexican Hotels Association of Yucatán, said the new infrastructure will begin operating from late 2026 to mid 2027. The industry is pursuing a strategy that ties hospitality growth to the Tren Maya, aiming to raise annual passengers at the Mérida Teya station from roughly 800 000 to two million through joint promotion, ticket sales in hotels and a partnership with Uber to facilitate local transport.
Boston’s Pizza opened its fifth Mérida location in Prime Center, marking the brand’s 11th outlet for BPT Group. The new venue, launched ahead of the 2026 World Cup, features gourmet pizza, a sports‑bar setting with large screens, cocktails and a community‑focused event called “The OpeningMatch.” Eduardo Vargas Torrado, director general of BPT Group, highlighted the aim to create a space where people can gather to watch sports together as the World Cup approaches.
