Yucunicoco and Juxtlahuaca resolve 180-year land dispute

The community of Santa María Yucunicoco and the municipality of Santiago Juxtlahuaca have signed an agrarian agreement to end a territorial dispute dating back to approximately 1847. The conflict involved 2,244 hectares of land and 3,362.194 linear meters of boundary.

Mediated by the Oaxaca Secretariat of Government, the agreement follows technical work conducted by the Agrarian Conciliation Board in August. The terms include maintaining social peace, respecting property and persons, ensuring access to harvest roads, and continuing paving works toward the federal highway.

Jesús Romero López, the Secretary of Government, stated that this agreement benefits 2,148 farmers and 12,349 inhabitants. He noted that the current state administration has reached 59 peace agreements to date.
