Yuen Long cable fault causes multiple power outages at Shui Bin Wai Estate
An underground cable fault in Yuen Long caused multiple power outages at Shui Bin Wai Estate on August 11, affecting approximately 2,400 households. The first outage occurred around 4:22 AM, leaving most of the estate's seven buildings without electricity, with only Hong Shui House remaining powered.
Residents experienced a second outage around 10:30 PM that night, which similarly left most buildings without power and caused issues such as people being trapped in elevators at Shan Shui House and Chuen Shui House. Residents reported significant discomfort due to the lack of air conditioning and fans during the heat.
CLP Power stated that engineers completed repairs and restored power to all affected customers by 10:45 AM. The company apologized for the inconvenience and committed to investigating the cause. During the incident, CLP's community support team worked with local district officials and provided emergency battery support to affected nursing homes. Local district councillor Yuen Ming Yee also assisted elderly residents and elderly centers by providing water, temporary fans, and backup power.
