Yuji Horii releases AI-developed mystery game in 30 minutes
Yuji Horii, the creator of the 'Dragon Quest' series, has released a free, browser-based mystery game developed using generative AI in approximately 30 minutes. Titled ‘Komiya in the Interrogation Room’, the project was shared via an Anthropic Claude Artifact link.
In the game, players act as police officers interrogating a 72-year-old suspect to uncover the truth behind a pawnshop robbery. The gameplay requires managing the suspect's ‘Agitation’ and ‘Resistance’ meters to prevent him from exercising his right to remain silent.
Horii noted the stark contrast between this rapid development and his experience creating the landmark 1983 adventure game ‘The Portopia Serial Murder Case’, where he personally handled the story, art, and programming. He remarked that today, providing instructions to an AI allows a single person to create a ‘fairly decent game’ even without formal drawing or programming skills.
