Yuki Ishikawa leads Japan volleyball team toward Olympic qualification
Yuki Ishikawa, captain of the Japan men's national volleyball team, has expressed his determination to lead the team to victory at the upcoming Asian Championship in Kitakyushu, starting September 4. Winning the tournament is critical, as it provides a pathway to qualify for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.
During a public practice session in Tokyo on August 18, Ishikawa addressed concerns regarding his physical condition. He noted that while he has dealt with minor issues since the Nations League, he is currently adjusting his condition and expects to be in peak form for the championship. He characterized his current status as a minor injury that is not a major concern.
Ishikawa identified China, Iran, and Qatar as the primary competitors to overcome. He emphasized the importance of mental focus and technical improvements in serving, receiving, blocking, and spiking to ensure the team secures the championship and Olympic qualification.
