Yuki Karakawa announces retirement from Chiba Lotte Marines

Chiba Lotte Marines pitcher Yuki Karakawa has announced his retirement from professional baseball after a 19-year career. Karakawa, who joined the team as a first-round draft pick in 2007, held a career record of 82 wins, 78 losses, and 64 holds with a 3.71 ERA.

Karakawa was part of the celebrated ‘High School Big 3’ alongside Sho Nakata and Yuki Sato, all of whom were highly touted first-round prospects in the 2007 draft. During his retirement press conference, Karakawa expressed gratitude toward his peers, stating that he viewed them more as comrades than rivals since his early days in the league.

Sho Nakata also reflected on their relationship, noting that seeing the success of Karakawa and Sato before he reached the first division fueled his own motivation to succeed. Nakata expressed his respect for Karakawa’s pitching style and confirmed he had contacted the pitcher directly following the retirement announcement.
