Yuki Karikawa announces retirement from Chiba Lotte Marines

Chiba Lotte Marines pitcher Yuki Karikawa has announced his retirement from professional baseball after a 19-year career. Karikawa, a first-round draft pick in 2007, will play his final game on October 3 against the SoftBank Hawks at ZOZO Marine Stadium.

Throughout his career, Karikawa achieved significant milestones, including a 12-win season in 2011 and multiple years as a reliable reliever with over 10 holds in consecutive seasons. His career statistics include 350 appearances, 82 wins, 78 losses, and 64 holds with a 3.71 ERA.

Teammate and fellow pitcher Naoya Masuda expressed his sadness regarding the announcement, describing Karikawa as a close friend and brother-like figure. Masuda noted that while he believes Karikawa still has the ability to play, he respects his teammate's decision to move forward with his life.
