Yuki Karikawa: Teammates reflect on retirement and mentorship

Following the announcement of Yuki Karikawa’s retirement from the Chiba Lotte Marines on September 4, teammates have shared reflections on his influence both on and off the field.

Teammates highlighted Karikawa’s emphasis on discipline and etiquette. Rikuto Yokoyama noted that Karikawa provided guidance on daily life and professional conduct during training sessions. Other players, including Ikuto Ono and Raito Ikeda, recalled personal memories such as team barbecues and Karikawa’s strict but helpful reminders regarding professional standards, such as the proper arrangement of equipment.

On the technical side, Shuta Takano shared how Karikawa provided mental strategies for relief pitching. Karikawa advised on the importance of managing the first out and maintaining focus during extra innings, advice that Takano credited for helping his own performance in high-pressure situations.
