Yukinari Sugawara attracts interest from PSV and Celtic

Japanese international defender Yukinari Sugawara is attracting interest from several major European clubs. According to reports from German media outlet ‘Absolut Fußball’, both PSV Eindhoven in the Netherlands and Celtic FC in Scotland have shown ‘concrete interest’ in the Southampton FC player.

Sugawara, who is under contract with Southampton until June 2028, is estimated to have a transfer value of approximately 7 million euros. While his former club, Werder Bremen, has expressed interest in re-acquiring him, financial constraints are expected to make a return to Germany difficult. In contrast, PSV and Celtic are positioned to offer more competitive terms and the opportunity to play in European competitions.

Sugawara previously played in the Dutch Eredivisie for AZ Alkmaar before moving to Southampton in 2024. He recently completed a successful loan spell at Werder Bremen, where he made 31 appearances and recorded 6 assists.
