Deutsche Bahn to use dynamic points pricing for BahnBonus free tickets

From 1 August 2026 the Deutsche Bahn will replace fixed‑price points for BahnBonus free rides with a dynamic system. The number of points required will depend on the price of the corresponding paid ticket, so higher‑priced trips will need more points. Domestic 2nd‑class free rides will start at 750 points (down from 1,000) and 1st‑class at 1,250 points (down from 1,500). International 2nd‑class starts at 1,750 points (previously 2,000) and 1st‑class at 2,750 points (previously 3,000). No upper limit is announced. The change also raises points for Flex‑ticket freebies, e.g., a 2nd‑class Flex free ride rises from 2,000 to 2,500 points. Analysts note that dynamic pricing can make point values harder to predict and may devalue existing points. Customers are advised to redeem any remaining free‑ride points before 31 July 2026 under the current fixed rates.
