Yulianna Avdeeva releases ‘Metanoia’ piano album

Pianist Yulianna Avdeeva has released a new album titled ‘Metanoia’ under the Pentatone label. The recording features Franz Liszt’s Sonata in B minor alongside a selection of his late works.

Avdeeva’s interpretation explores the complex nuances and shades within Liszt’s compositions, ranging from the mournful tones of ‘La lugubre gondola’ to the religious transfiguration of ‘R. W. – Venezia’ and the rhythmic intensity of ‘Csárdás macabre’. In her approach to the Sonata, she emphasizes visionary, almost impressionistic qualities, though the performance is noted for prioritizing these textures over the work’s traditional virtuosic brilliance and youthful passion.
