Yunlin agriculture suffers heavy rain damage to bamboo and guava
Heavy rainfall in the Gukeng area of Yunlin has caused significant damage to bamboo shoots and guava crops. During a field inspection with representatives from the Ministry of Agriculture, the Agriculture and Food Agency, and local government units, legislator Chang Chia-chun reported that bamboo shoot harvests have plummeted to approximately 60% of previous years due to waterlogging and rot.
Guava farmers are also facing substantial losses, as the heavy rains have led to poor pollination and increased fruit drop, impacting both current yields and future income. Chang urged affected farmers to report damages to local community offices immediately and to use the ‘Agricultural Natural Disaster On-site Photo APP’ to document losses to ensure eligibility for government relief. She stated she will continue to track the situation to secure natural disaster assistance from the Ministry of Agriculture to mitigate the financial impact on local farmers.
