Yunlin County promotes registration of Huwei Zhongyuan Pudu as cultural heritage

The Yunlin County Government is actively working to register the century-old Huwei Zhongyuan Pudu as a county-level intangible cultural heritage. This effort aims to preserve the precious folk customs and ensure the sustainable transmission of the tradition.

The Huwei Zhongyuan Pudu has evolved through the collaboration of local residents, temples, and eight major ritual districts. Since 2009, the event has utilized a rotating host system and integrated various districts to create a large-scale cultural phenomenon. Recent celebrations have blended traditional rituals with modern creativity, featuring ice sculptures, fireworks, and unique ritual tables incorporating local agricultural products.

To engage younger generations, the festivities include music performances and contemporary cultural activities. Local officials, including County Magistrate Chang Li-shan and Huwei Town Mayor Lin Chia-hung, emphasized the importance of combining religious faith with tourism to strengthen the region's cultural brand.
