Yunlin legislator Chang Ting-chi reports assault and campaign harassment

Yunlin County legislator Chang Ting-chi of the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) has reported facing physical assault and harassment. Reports indicate that during a legislative trip to Japan last year, Chang was allegedly slapped and threatened by a female colleague from the same party. While Chang did not initially name the individual, sources identify the alleged assailant as fellow DPP legislator Tsai Meng-chen.

Chang has recently reported further provocations, including incidents where her campaign vehicle and assistants were intimidated and forced off the road by unidentified individuals. In response, she has applied for security details and adjusted her campaign routes to ensure safety.

The controversy is reportedly intertwined with complex personal relationships involving Liu Chien-kuo, a candidate for Yunlin County Magistrate. Former legislator Li Wan-yu has expressed support for Chang, emphasizing that the focus should remain on the issue of violence and safety rather than past personal relationships. The situation presents a potential challenge for the DPP as it seeks to consolidate local political influence in Yunlin.
